Louisville (USA) and Singapore host world premieres of AS's new works

On November 11th at 7.30 p.m a new work by Ananda Sukarlan will be unveiled at Esplanade Concert Hall, Singapore. "Vega & Altair", a 20-minute piece for flute, violin, cello and harp was commissioned by the harpist Katryna Tan, winner of the Young Musician Award 2005 of the National Arts Council of Singapore. It is in 7 movements and based on a Chinese mythology about love and separation of those 2 characters who became 2 stars in the sky. The other players are Roberto Alvarez-flute, Cindy Yan-violin and Natasha Lim-cello.

For several times Esplanade has hosted some performances of AS's work, the latest being another piece based on a mythology "The Humiliation of Drupadi" for 2 pianos earlier this year. This time "Vega & Altair" is a world premiere, and Ananda has written about it during its creative process in his blog. Another work with the same theme of love will be premiered in Louisville, USA, on November 17th at WUOL 90.5 FM classical radio. "3 S Dalam Cinta" (3 S in love) is a song-cycle in Indonesian consisting of 3 songs for tenor and piano based on poems by Sitor Situmorang and Sapardi Djoko Damono. One of them, "Pria yang (pergi) jauh" has often been performed, and this year Ananda has added 2 songs to complete them as a cycle. They are dedicated to 3 Indonesian tenors Dani Dumadi, Farman Purnama & Ivan Yohan. The World Premiere in Louisville will be performed by tenor Samuel Tandei and pianist Ruthanne Fulton, and will be broadcast live. You can listen anywhere on this planet by accessing into http://www.wuol.org/ - 12 noon (US Eastern Time, live) or if you live in Indonesia on Nov. 18, 24:00 (WIB), or any other time afterwards at your own convenience.

Samuel Tandei will complete the program with other Ananda's songs such as "Dalam Sakit" (dedicated to all who died of AIDS) and "Kama" (on poem written in jail by Ilham Malayu) as well as other classical songs by Western composers.
